A Case Report of Cogenital Hypothyroidism

Abstract
This paper presented a case of congenital hypothyroidism in a 11 month old male with an episods of feeding difficulty, large protruded tongue, frequent URI, delayed dentition, mouth breathing and frequent constipation which were progressively worse. On admission, his height was 71cm which was 25 percentile. His face was puffy, edematous and skin was dry and scaly. His mouth was open and had enlarged protruded tongue and no dentition. He had moderate umbilical hernia and constipation. T4 level was 2, 4,ug.
On X-ray examination, primary ossification centers were not seen.
Desiccated thyroid, 30mg, was given once daily by mouth with increments of 10mg every 2 weeks for 4 months.
8 weeks following initiation of treatment, clinical manifestions were improved and T4 level was 6.25,ug.
4 month after treatment, T4 level was 7.4,ug.
Ossification centers were showed and bony growing was prominent. His general condition was compatible with normal his age.
A brief review of literature was made.
